Leeds: Moortown Reservoir

DAWSON-WAM was awarded the contract to design and construct a contiguous piled retaining wall to facilitate the construction of a new reservoir for Yorkshire Water. The contract was let through JN Bentley and was located in a brown field site in the Moortown area of Leeds.

Piles were 630mm in diameter and were installed using a Cased CFA system. The piles allowed for a 3m cantilever and were installed via a reinforced concrete guide beam was installed to ensure the line and level of the piles.

The ground consisted of soft made ground, overlaying dense sands and stiff clays which overlaid strong limestone bedrock.

JN Bentley presented DAWSON-WAM with a Subcontractor Performance Award 2011 for the works on the reservoir in recognition of the quality, environmental, and health and safety standards that were achieved on the scheme.
