London: Highbury Place King Post and Contig Wall

PROJECT DETAILS

CLIENT:
Mount Anvil

LOCATION:
Higbury, North London

DAWSON-WAM were contracted by Mount Anvil to construct a  230m king post and contig piled retaining wall to facilitate the construction of 440 new residential units

The combination of king post and contig walls enabled Mount Anvil to carry out a reduced dig whilst retaining existing roadways and maintaining existing trees and fauna from neighbouring properties.

In total 75 king posts were installed with depth up to 10m into the stiff London Clay and were used to retain heights of up to 4.1m. Concrete panel inserts were made to measure but were fabricated offsite to reduce the disruption to the local residents and were installed by means which reduced the safety risk to a minimum.

The contig piled wall was constructed of 450mm diameter piles using DAWSON-WAM's Cased CFA system. Over 200 contig piles were installed with the closest piles being 150mm from existing occupied buildings.

Neighbouring boundaries were closely monitored throughout the construction works and the piling and excavation was completed using methods to ensure neighbouring properties were unaffected by the works.
