London: Greenwich King Post Wall

DAWSON-WAM was contracted by Osborne to provide a design and construct a retaining wall for a new basement construction for the University of Greenwich. In one area of site temporary propping was eliminated by the use of an innovative design solution which involved a king post wall solution retaining a 2m berm in front of the contiguous wall. This solution allowed the contiguous wall to cantilever whilst considerably limiting deflections. The clear advantage of the solution was that it allowed following works to proceed without obstruction and the delays cause by working around and removing temporary props.

In total 40m of king post wall was installed with King Posts at 2.5m centres. King posts were formed using a cased CFA system to install concrete piles into the ground. Steel beam sections were then installed into the wet piles to tight tolerances. Finally precast panels were delivered and installed in a sequenced method to ensure the stability of the berm was maintained at all times.
