Tregunter Road Basement
Basements

DAWSON-WAM was contracted by KHN Construction to design and construct a retaining wall for a two storey basement structure for new extremely high end residential development in Kensington. As the site was in a very prestigious area within Kensington there was very onerous noise and working time conditions.

The 100m of secant walls allowed for a 12m depth of excavation with two levels of propping. This was to facilitate in part for the construction of swimming pools, tanks and lift pits.

Piles were installed to within 100mm of existing 5 story residential properties which were founded on shallow strip footings. As the ground compromised 8m of sands and gravels overlying London Clay DAWSON-WAM’s Cased CFA System was employed to prevent flighting and ensure vertical tolerances of over 1:200.

Works were completed in very confined site conditions where the secant wall followed the boundary line throughout most of the site. In one corner an existing tree was under a protection order and as a result required a curved secant wall along the root protection zone.
