We have recently provided a circular secant shaft for HB Tunnelling Ltd which acted as a reception pit for a TBM. Piles were installed up to 18m into mudstone to allow a 14m excavation without propping or capping beams. Piles worked in hoop stress and bending and were designed to allow breakout at the entry point of the TBM without any propping measures. Piles were installed with our powerful RTG RG27S in Cased CFA mode to tight tolerances to achieve hoop stress continuity to depth.
Congratulations to HB Tunnelling’s Brian Sharkey and Shaun Walsh and team who arrived in perfect position after driving 1500mm diameter tunnel over 300m.
