We are absolutely delighted to see our Ormeau Avenue Sewerage Improvement Scheme win the Infrastructure Award at yesterdays RICS Social Impact Awards 2020.
This scheme was a recommended output from a major Drainage Area Plan Study in July 2001. Its purpose was to reduce the number of combined sewer spills, reduce hydraulic and odour issues associated with the high levels of grease in the system and reduce the possibility of flooding to streets around central Belfast. It included upgrading existing sewers, 1,200mm diameter attenuation sewer, storm separation, new 70l/s wastewater pumping station at Hardcastle street and closure of five combined sewer overflows.
The judges said, "The Ormeau Road Sewerage Improvement Scheme will deliver a key element of the infrastructure required to enable continued and sustainable development of the Linen Quarter and surrounding areas of the centre of Belfast. The project team demonstrated not only technical excellence, but also commitment to collaboration and engagement with a very wide and complex stakeholder group. Project success was driven by detailed programming and sequencing of the works, which focused on minimising disruption to all stakeholders."
