Some fantastic photos showing our innovative secant wall solution for a new retaining wall on the M6 Motorway in Staffordshire for Kier Highways.
A 70m long, 630mm diameter hard/hard secant wall was required to be installed with top of pile some 2.5m above carriageway level. Utilising 3 levels of Steel Mat Hire mats we were able safely elevate the piling rig 1m above carriageway level, and using one of our ABI TM22's to reach up 1.5m to install the piles from the raised guidewall. Conventional methods would have required the piling rig to be level with the top of pile, the placement of 4,000t of single use platform material and the closure of most of the lanes of the motorway.
The secant wall is installed 11m into sandstone on a sloping hillside and works took place immediately adjacent to live 3 lane motorway traffic, utilising a slew restrictor on rig, crane and associated plant.
