A1 Birtley to Coal House

We’ve been back on the A1 Birtley to Coal House project recently to complete our gantry piling package on behalf of Costain Group PLC & National Highways.

On this visit, we deployed our powerful BAUER Group RTG RG27S Piling Rig to install 750mm & 900mm Cased CFA Piles to depths of 19m and rock sockets of up to 10m into underlying sandstone.

Great collaboration with the project management team facilitated the safe and efficient installation of the piles and movement of the piling equipment between locations up and down the busy A1. All work on this visit was undertaken at night due to the close proximity of live traffic, and Steel Mat Hire mats were incorporated into the piling platform design to minimise granular material requirements.

This package of works is part of a larger scope which includes permanent works sheet piling and bridge bearing piles, and a large range of geotechnical solutions for temporary works.
